Old Jonesville Day a Rousing Success for All!

Guests from as far away as California, Wyoming, Florida and Alabama joined area residents on Saturday to enjoy a variety of vendors, talent, entertainers, sky divers and an extended family reunion at Old Jonesville Day festivities. Dodging sporadic rain drops, watching special events and an array of vintage autos, artists, craftsmen and historic exhibits -- old friends and new acquaintances mingled among the exhibitors in Lila Swaim Park.

Brett Pardue, a talented vocalist from Elkin won the first Yadkin Valley talent competition .... His first place prize (a weekend in Pigeon Forge with tickets to local shows) was provided by Fairfield Inn.

Brett was joined by nine other talented finalists from the Yadkin Valley: Brooke Johnson, Christina Minotti, Annie Hart, Drake Macemore, Michaela Cockerham, Tristin Davis, Sheilia Lynch, Sarayn Meyer and Asia Martin.

Intermittent afternoon showers failed to dampen enthusiasm for entertainers or camaraderie as participants gathered at respective venues throughout the day. Approximately 500 viewed an exceptional display of local talent in the first annual talent show. Individual performers are listed in the sidebar to the right.

Jonesville Elementary students Jordan Mays, Houston Wright and Tanner Sturdivant received cash awards for their participation in the essay and poster contests.

Historic Essay winner Jordan Mayes and Eagle Scout Andrew Reece were congratulated by U.S. District Representative Virginia Foxx who visited with guests and toured exhibits throughout the morning. Representative Foxx congratulated the community for its continued emphasis on honoring the heritage and work ethic of the people of the Yadkin Valley and the role Jonesville has played as the "heart of the Yadkin Valley."
